About Tama Leaver's GRS Blog
I am an avid blogger, with a strong interest in digital culture from
the rise of the blogosphere to changing landscapes of commercial media
in the face of participatory culture. I've a strong background in
cultural studies, film studies and comparative literature. I recently
completed my doctoral candidature in English, Communication &
Cultural Studies at the University of Western Australia. The thesis was
entitled "Artificialities: From Artificial Intelligence to Artificial
Culture - Subjectivity, Embodiment and Technology in Contemporary
Speculative Texts." Presently I'm employed as a Lecturer (Higher
Education Development) in the Centre for Advancement of Teaching and Learning at the University of Western Australia. My CV is online here.
This blog attempts to illustrate why blogging is important and/or useful for postgraduate students, in terms of building communities; establishing a digital presence and an eportfolio of sorts; and having a reflective space to 'think out loud' during candidature. Comments are always welcome, or you can email me at tama dot leaver at uwa dot edu dot au if you prefer. I also maintain a personal blog, TamaLeaver dot Net which focuses on digital culture and a more narrow-range educational blog with the rather unimaginative title of Tama's eLearning Blog.
