Overheard on Campus

Guy on phone: But someone has to turn up as John McCain! Otherwise I'll look like an idiot being Sarah Palin on my own. Happy anticipation of Halloween, everyone...

Seven songs from the tundra

Given I'm a champion procrastinator (so far today I've baked a quiche and a cake and done the dishes twice), and fellow Knowledge Pimp/Wondergrad Danica posted a meme on her blog papercut heart today, I thought I might as well volunteer for tagging. I

Status report

Now, just because I have failed miserably at staying away from the computer after 10pm doesn't mean I'm useless at all other pursuits. It's October the eighth and I have written over 6000 words, so i'm not doing too badly. I was perhaps a bit ambitious

It's the little things that (I hope) count

Sky's post made a little inspiration kick me in the head: "Hey, how about you collect some tips and ideas on approaching research/work in a sensible way and actually apply them to your own life ?". This is also partly driven by a rather conscious effort

Crazybusyaaaagh

That about says it. Tuesdays are my "running around being late for everything falling over myself tired because I haven't had time to eat" -day. This is really just a quick update to inform anyone who reads this blog that I am, in fact, still alive and

I'm sick. Again.

This seems to happen quite regularly to me. Yesterday was worse, today at least I'm in no great pain and I've sweated off most of the fever, if not all of it. To give you an idea how bad yesterday was, my greatest achivement was watching an hour of Australian

Random Potteresques

Right, I've had a good whine about HP7 to a few people, and I have no intention of repeating everything here again. I'm not going to list spoilers as such in this post, except towards the end maybe a bit (just for Karen), so avert your eyes now if you

Because it's Friday the 20th

In anticipation of tomorrow...

Brian May is my hero

Brian May has just completed his PhD... And it only took him thirty years . Yeah, okay, so he paused his research to become on of the awesomest people in the universe and only took 9 months to write the thing up when he got back to it. But apart from

Around the world in 13 travel warnings

I have been somewhat intrigued by the travel warnings for various countries (planning research trip, got carried away). There is a "local laws" section for each country, warning travellers that some laws may seem severe by Australian standards, but will

No, honey, I *am* the dumb.

My sister sent me a link to the following image as her special way of expressing her condolences for my brainwave malfunction yesterday: I may need to start wearing these daily.
