I wonder which one of them would win in a good old-fashioned punch-up?

The last couple of days have been good for anyone who likes to see culturetastic* ladies just being awesome.

So, this post is my combined, joined-at-the-hip tribute to Helen "hot" Mirren and Maxine "ka-pow" McKew.

It's like they're both so friendly and "of-course-I'll-lend-you-a-cup-of-sugar-dear-let's-do-lunch-and-talk-intellectual-things-I-totally-respect-your-point-of-view", while at the same time being absolutely capable of gaffer taping you to the ceiling and feeding you raw pigeons if you either screw the public school system or award anything to Meryl Streep. And I have to say, I respect that.

*thank you, Mirri Perkele, for allowing that word to pop up on Messenger just as I was looking for the perfect adjective!

My money's on Mirren ... she was rather convincing as a dirty-fighting, hard-nosed, hard-drinking detective in Prime Suspect!

You may have a point. She also did the whole "having someone cooked and served as dinner just to teach someone else a lesson"-trick in The Cook, the Thief (etc).

Maybe McKew could consider adding that to her campaign, you know, instead of the usual baby-kissing?
