Is Firefox too much to ask for?

Published 09 July 07 10:05 AM

Apparently, yes. Liking Firefox and hating Internet Explorer is not enough of a reason for ITS to install a freely available program on my office PC.

Oh my Arts computer - with all your Mac-y goodness, decent programs and large screen - how I miss you.

*cough* Use a laptop instead of a desktop and they'll give you Admin rights ... *cough*

I have Firefox on my machine, so it should be possible to get it. Keep trying, or call in for some back-up if needed; I'll write with support.

You should be able to install it without adminstrator rights. We have installed it on a number of admin machines without a problem. You can install Safari for the PC just for good measure :)

I've followed David's advice and gone ahead and installed Firefox. Yay! Now I just have to add my bookmarks etc and I'll be happy in my virtual home. (And maybe hiding out from ITS offline :) )

Do you use Foxmarks?  Synchronised bookmarks between multiple machines using Firefox makes life a lot easier! (http://www.foxmarks.com/)

You are such a geek, Tama! I'm trying to set up a bit of a division between work and study through the computers I use (laptop for research/thesis/etc, office computer for work) and part of that is a rather different set of bookmarks. I'll keep Foxmarks in mind, though, if the desktop at home is ever worth using.

You're posting a thread about Firefox and I'm the geek? :P  Besides, we're in a blog ... surely this is the realm of the geek ... and there are more geeks every day!

Speaking of Geekishness, did you see In Media Res has a Battlestar themed week going on with Lisa Nakamura writing the first take? Here: http://mediacommons.futureofthebook.org/videos

Hmm, I've spent a large part the day playing with HTML and mysource to get a new bit of the LLRS website working. I guess I need to start owning my geekishness! :)

Thanks for the Battlestar link - I might use it for self-bribery to get tomorrow's work done.
